Mod: Where does the name Tokio Hotel come from?

Tom: At the beginning we didn´t care about our band name. When our band was just Bill and me, our name was "Devilish". When the other two joined our band we still called ourselves Devilish. As we started to record in a professional way in a studio we thought: ok, for the band a new time is coming.. we have to think about a band name that we really like and that goes with us. We are all city people and love big megacities and we didn´t want to have a cheesy name. Tokio as a city was awesome because we´ve never been there, it´s big, people don´t know much about it, it sounds awesome. And then we were looking for a symbol to go with us and that was“ hotels“. And then the name Tokio Hotel arised.

Mod: What is the song "Rette Mich“ about?

Bill: It ist he only real ballad on our album. It´s a song about defenselessness. It can be about love or friendship, things that are over. In the first verse I sing: „this used to be our secret, now I´m hiding here alone“. A nice time that is over, you say how defensless you are sometimes and you are pretty sad and you say that you need to be rescued.

Mod: What do you think about that some people think you look like a girl?

Bill: What? (didn´t understand her english) Ahh ..many people think I look like a girl? Hm..well, I never really thought about that. It´s like with our music, there are things I just wanna do. And then I do it. I wanted to wear make-up and then I did it. I don´t care about what other people say. It´s really important for us as a band. We listen to us, do what we want to do. That´s how it works.

Mod: Do you have some advice for other bands?

Bill: We played a lot live, in every club. Made a lot of live experience before. That is pretty important for a band. We never just wrote songs. We finished a song and then played it live. We wanted people to see it and to see how they react. It´s important to go on stage as soon as you can, apply for contests.

Tom: We always lost.

Bill: We always lost the contests, but we didn´t bother. You have to carry on. We sent our tapes to the companies. It´s important to have that struggle.

Tom: Of course you need luck, someone found us. He saw us, took us to the studio and produced us. But besides the luck you need to play a lot live.

Mod: A lot of girls want to know if you have any girlfriend?

All: No.

Tom: Nothing serious.

Mod: Do you have time for girlfriends?

Tom: Hm..well I think..

Georg: If we need it, yes.

Tom: If we would really fall in love, we would find some time. It´s really difficult, the girls have to know that music is our number one. It was like that and will remain that way. But of course there could be time.

Mod: How does your dream girl look like?

Georg: That´s difficult to say, there are a lot of beautiful women.

Tom: I´d never commit myself on one type. If I would say my dream girl should be blonde, then I couldn´t date a brunette.

Translation of Part 2:

Mod: Do you know that you have a lot of fans in Denmark?

Bill: Yeah, we just heard about it. We are really excited. We´ve been a lot abroad in the last month and travel a lot and we played concerts in France and Russia and so on. And as we heard that, we thought we gotta play a concert in Denmark, too! It will be pretty soon, we are happy to have fans here and that there are people who are interested in us. It´s very cool.

Mod: How did you form your band?

Tom: Bill and me are playing music together for a very long time. I play the guitar since I´m 7, Bill sings since he is 7. We had a lot of gigs, the bass and drums came from a keyboard. We met the other two in a club.

Georg: We both know us from the music school.

Tom: We tried it together and rehearsed and it worked well and now we´ve been around for 6 years.

Bill: We always knew we wanted to make that kind of music. We all listen to very different kinds of music, that´s all mixed up. Everyone has another favorite. But we always knew what we wanted to do together. We went to our rehearsel room, we wanted to do our own music, own lyrics. It developed somehow that we made excatly that kind of mucis with these lyrics and so on.

Mod: What do you think about that your music is called Emo?

Georg: Is it called like that? I don´t know.

Bill: In general it´s hard to categorize music: that is that kind of music and so on. We just made our music and never said it has to be that kind or that style, it just happened.

Tom.: That is us.

Georg: We were never expecting that. We were just waiting what will happen.

Tom: We went to the studio and didn´t know if we will ever release an album, we just recorded, rehearsed, wrote songs and developed. Then we got a contract and we could release our music to the public. It was really surprising that already our first single was so successful. We didn´t expect that.

Mod: How is it to be so young and already so famous?

Bill: It´s a big dream coming true. We always wanted to make music and that a lot of people listen to us. We always wanted to have real fans and then it came unexpecting. We played big concerts and and had big success. We enjoy it! We are happy at the moment, it´s like a dream , we can´t realize that. Iit´s just one year now. It´s a dream coming true for us!

Translation of Part 3 (Outtake):

Mod: We got a lot of e-mails from danish fans who have a problem with us playing your music video Rette mich because then you get too famous and it´s not good to be a fan anymore. You know what I mean? Because then you go like mainstream. And when everyone likes you it´s not good to like you as an old fan. Do you know that feeling?

Bill: *confused* *breathes out loudly*

Georg: Not really. I like the music that sounds good.

Bill: For me, too. That what you like you listen to and you like that. I don´t care, the main thing is that I like it.

Mod: But if you have to say something to this, because we got a lot of mails from fans, very mad at us for playing your music. If you had to say something to them, directly to the camera! Can you do that? Because they are very worried.

All: *Confusion*

Tom: You shall say something directly..

Woman in the background: You shall say something to these fans..

Bill: ..who wants to see our video??

Georg: No, who are sad that it´s played so much!!

Woman: Yeah that fans who discovered you. What kinds of fans are these? More male fans?

Mod: No they are female fans actually.

Bill says something to Georg. *laughs*

Georg: Well, I also don´t know!

Mod: If you have somehting to say to them..

Bill: So that they are not sad...*laughs out loud*.. hopefully they will play our video less or what??? *can´t believe it*

Woman in the background: *tells them what do to* I would say "hey guys, we are really happy bla bla"

Boys: yeah yeah..

Woman in the background: ..but don´t miss us live..

Bill: Yeah exactly, ok. *thinks about it*

Bill: Do we want to say we are Tokio Hotel? No? I just start?

Bill: Thanks a lot to all fans in Denmark. We are really happy. We´ll play a live concert soon. We´re looking foward to met you and to see you all!
